The Magic of Food

Food is magic.

Yes, we all need it to survive. But let’s be real - there is something magical that happens when food + people gather together.

I first discovered this true magic 10 years ago when Brian and I were getting married. I had this strange desire/need/obsession for fine china. I filled our registry with complete table settings and crossed my fingers. They were JUST plates. But apparently marriage had catapulted me into becoming a true adult that got far too excited for plates. Oh the joy that a finely set table could bring.

I had promised aloud that these “fancy” plates would not just sit and collect dust. Each week I vowed to use them. Thus - Every Monday in our home, we anointed as “Fancy Dinner Monday”. Which basically means I serve dinner on this fine china and call it fancy. Sometimes it’s a new recipe that I have put a lot of love and attention into. Sometimes it’s a quick family favorite that comes together with ease. But it is ALWAYS a family meal on fine china.

Week after week this tradition forces our busy lives to slow down for one night. Gathered at the table. Talking. Laughing. Eating.

THAT’S what makes food magical for me.

When we had the opportunity to expand our business and open a restaurant the thought of us facilitating opportunities to make magic for other people kept me up at night - in the best kind of way! Every great celebration in life is surrounded by food. We are so fortunate to still see this magic around the table come alive for you.

It’s the first date night out of the house. It’s the treat yourself dinner pick-up so you don’t have to cook. It’s the intimate birthday celebration. It’s the re-connect with a friend you haven’t been able to see in months.

Food, people, magic, everywhere!

What’s my point in all of this?? Sometimes we need to be reminded of the simple magic that is around us. My hope is that when you visit either of our locations, you are with people that make you happy. You have a delicious beer in hand. You eat food that feeds your soul. And you appreciate the magic that happens when all of those things combine.

Here’s to making lots of food-filled magic memories together.

Best,

Sam

Just for fun - here are some photos of my most memorable Fancy Dinner Monday magic moments on the go.

Fancy Dinner Monday at the Brewery

When we first got our keys to the brewery, I insisted that we should celebrate by having a picnic dinner there. In my mind it sounded wonderful - candlelit dinner in our vast building where we would sit and chat about all the the wonderful things that were to come. In reality it was dark, cold, and musty.

A special moment nonetheless.

Fancy Dinner Monday at the Pub

I learned my lesson with having Fancy Dinner Monday in a construction zone so I waited until our Lancaster location was much more put together! This Fancy Dinner Monday was a week before we opened our doors.

Fancy Dinner Monday on the go

Often times in the beginning days of the brewery, time slipped away and Brian’s brew days ran long. I’d pack up dinner + the china and we would have Fancy Dinner Monday in the middle of the brewery.
